Typically zinc, aluminium or hot-dipped galvanized components can be used, but in this unique circumstance, the materials they process at Olympic means that the refinery prohibits the use of these coatings on fasteners or the infrastructure. Any contact between the mined materials and these standard protectants can cause an electrolyte reaction that can emit toxic—and often deadly—fumes and cause galvanic corrosion.

Allfasteners put forward an unconventional solution to meet AS1252 2016 standards, something that many companies weren’t up to the task of providing. Allfasteners was able to provide EN 14399 version bolts in a black coating that adhered to AU standards with a quick turnaround time that saved the project from a costly shutdown period.
