When it comes to heavy fastening solutions, Allfasteners is the
go-to for many companies. This was certainly the case for BHP Billiton’s Olympic Dam project in South Australia. The project needed a solution for the ongoing corrosion on-site.
Despite all protective measures taken, overhead cranes and infrastructure in the processing facility continued showing signs of corrosion due to the harsh outback environment and an array of airborne contaminants on the site.
Typically zinc, aluminium or hot-dipped galvanized components can be used, but in this unique circumstance, the materials they process at Olympic means that the refinery prohibits the use of these coatings on fasteners or the infrastructure. Any contact between the mined materials and these standard protectants can cause an electrolyte reaction that can emit toxic—and often deadly—fumes and cause galvanic corrosion.
Allfasteners put forward an unconventional solution to meet AS1252 2016 standards, something that many companies weren’t up to the task of providing. Allfasteners was able to provide EN 14399 version bolts in a black coating that adhered to AU standards with a quick turnaround time that saved the project from a costly shutdown period.
When it comes to heavy fastening solutions, few companies can hit the mark. With its expansive network, Allfasteners can manufacture and source quality fasteners that meet the needs of all types of heavy construction, industrial and commercial projects.
For BHP Billiton, it was not only the capability but also the expertise and knowledge of the Allfasteners technical team that allowed them to meet the AS1252:2016 standards via EU standards and keep their Olympic Dam project on track without any major delays.
In addition to its expansive network, Allfasteners prides itself on its quality products, services and its quick turnaround time. With their long-standing history with EN 14399 bolts and the black coating, Allfasteners answered this dilemma faster than competitors could even search for one.
At the heart of what makes Allfasteners so successful is their focus on helping clients solve problems rather than just selling them products or services.
Said Jim Strange, Allfasteners Director, “and our interest is to help the client solve a problem before we even talk about selling anything. Compliance, performance and business results are what we care about the most for our clients.”
This is why they have such strong working relationships with their clients; Allfasteners understand exactly what their clients need with their long enduring industry experience. With this knowledge, they are then able to act quickly and efficiently while still delivering top-quality results - something they achieved yet again with BHP Billiton’s Olympic Dam project.
