Allfasteners is proud to have secured the Tallawarra B Power Station Project as the supplier of anchor bolts and fabrication services. The development of the Tallawarra B power station as a fast-start open cycle power station will contribute $300 million to the economy and create 250 jobs.
Tallawarra power station is located near Lake Illawarra at Energy Australia’s facility and will be the first in Australia to use a combination of gas and green Hydrogen as fuel, with an emissions offset. With a combined weight of 730 tonnes and a length of 112m, the new turbine and generator are the largest ever to be installed at the power station.
Allfasteners’ scope of work included designing, manufacturing and delivering specialised anchor bolts to install the turbine. Tasked with fabricating anchor bolts, M12 through to M36, then M52, M56, M64 & M90, the custom fabrication capabilities required for the project were a testament to the skills of the Allfasteners team and the facilities at hand.
Allfasteners supplied a range of fabrication services to the project. These services included welding, thread rolling, thread tapping, CNC machining, plate processing, corrosion protection and general steel work. The industrial fabrication team is composed of highly skilled tradesmen who have many years of experience in the engineering and construction industry to overcome specification challenges.
The design specifications that were initially available changed during the course of the project. This necessitated a flexible and adaptable fabrication team that could quickly respond to the changes and fabricate components that met the local requirements.
A crucial step in this process is examining the certifications of the steel composition to ensure it meets project specifications. And where needed, heat treating the steel to the correct hardness. This process was completed in-house at Allfasteners, which helped to keep the lead times shorter.
Where other suppliers are unable to provide a complete gamut of services, Allfasteners has the capability to design, engineer, and manufacture products from start to finish without the increase in lead times. This results from significant investment in staff expertise, equipment, and processes over many years.
For Tallawarra B, this meant supplying high-quality, fit-for-purpose products that were delivered on time and within budget. Now installed at the power station, the turbines will be used to generate electricity for around 90,000 households commencing in 2023-24.
We are excited to be a part of this important project that will have far-reaching benefits for the people of New South Wales. The Allfasteners team is proud to have supplied our custom-made anchor bolts to help make this project possible.
