When it comes to tunnel construction projects, the importance of reliable and durable anchoring systems cannot be overstated. One of the most effective and versatile types of anchoring systems are chemical anchors. These products offer a unique combination of high-strength and long-lasting durability, making them ideal for use in a wide variety of tunnelling applications.
Explore some of our successful tunnel projects across Australia and how our chemical anchors and fasteners played a critical role in their success.
Our CS-DZ dynamic studs and EF500R+ chemical anchor were employed to anchor the track-bearing bollards down the tunnel floor because of the ETA certification we could provide for both fatigue loading and 100-year design life. Thus, providing a secure and stable foundation for the project's railway system.
These bollards were installed in penetrations in the track bed that was sitting on rubber blocks, which held the track floor segment from moving latitudinally or longitudinally.
In addition to our studs and anchors, we also provided an innovative solution: an aluminium drilling template. This tool ensured that our studs and anchors were installed perfectly in place, guaranteeing their effectiveness and longevity.
These items played a critical role in anchoring the track-bearing bollards down the tunnel floor, ensuring the stability and safety of the railway system.
Our chemical anchor, EF500R+, was sought for its extreme strength and load-bearing capabilities in the Pennant's Hill Tunnel fire and deluge system fit out, coupled with 8.8 studs cut to specified lengths.
EF500R+ was installed into no fines concrete pavement for its exceptional load-bearing qualities and resistance to vibration and impact loads. We also pull-tested the studs to meet load requirements with report data for comprehensive supply and testing service.
Stage 2 of the Sydney Metro project had a range of fastener requirements, including screw bolts, construction screws, chemical anchors, threaded rods, and SDS bits. JH CPB Ghella JV sought Allfasteners as a comprehensive supplier for the project, plus our engineering expertise on one of our chemical anchors, VF22PRO+.
VF22PRO+ was sought as an alternative to the design-specified product for its cost benefits and performance. With all of our chemical anchor product range, ETA documentation is supplied, plus any extra engineering calculations from our in-house team upon request. As a result, JH CPB Ghella JV was able to respecify to VF22PRO+ without compromising on the quality, economy, or performance.
VF18 met the required specifications for the deluge brackets in the M4-M5 Link Tunnels as a medium load-bearing, post-installed chemical anchor. In addition to its strength, VF18 is also easy to install, making it an efficient option for time-sensitive projects while working at heights or in confined environments.
As a styrene-free chemical anchor, VF18 has very low emissions and is perfect for indoor use and in confined spaces. Its styrene-free formula means it will not release any hazardous or odorous fumes when being used, making it an ideal choice for projects with strict environmental regulations.
Rozelle Interchange changing traffic conditions required barriers to be pinned to the concrete and asphalt. VF22PRO+ was selected for this as it is an excellent all-round performer for a range of applications in both cracked & uncracked concrete, suitable for impacts if they were to occur.
With the help of VF22PRO+, the project is able to anchor close to free edges such as excavations or formwork areas. This allows greater flexibility in terms of size and depth that anchors can be placed, depending on where the barriers are placed.
