When it comes to major infrastructure projects in Australia, there’s no denying that the Inland Rail Project and Victorian Level Crossing Removal Project have been two of the biggest. The Inland Rail project is an immense undertaking that will span 1,700 kilometres and continues to progress. While, the Level Crossing Removal Project is Victoria’s largest rail infrastructure project in history – a multi-billion dollar program to be completed in 2030.
The complexities of the rail projects, both in geographic size and scope, meant these projects required precision, safety and quality across the supply chain. Both of these projects required an experienced supplier of fastener products who could deliver quality products on time, within budget and with technical expertise. Here’s why Allfasteners was chosen.
In order to expedite the construction of the Inland Rail’s culverts from Narrabri to North Star, Allfasteners devised a unique solution-long threaded rods and accompanying couplers. These pieces could reach lengths as long as 22.2 meters, allowing installation crews on-site greater flexibility in their work while ensuring fastening was done securely.
Additional stress bars were placed between culverts using special brackets supplied by Allfasteners to secure the culverts into place. Timely lead times were adhered to and technical specifications were met, allowing the Inland Rail’s culvert installation to be completed on time
Likewise, for the Victorian Level Crossing Removal Program, it was crucial that turnarounds times for product delivery were met in order to keep the project on track. Allfasteners provided a range of products like hold-down bolt cages quickly and efficiently. Allfasteners have been involved in multiple level crossing removal projects including the Mooroolbark and Lilydale crossings, to name a few.
Working with CPB and Metro Rail, hold-down bolt cages were supplied for gantry footings and similar critical structures – particularly along the Hurstbridge line during track duplications and crossing removals at Rosanna and Alphington. Adhering to strict specifications for the multiple cages delivered allowed CPB and Metro Rail to efficiently embed the fasteners to the engineered depths, without any issues
Allfasteners was chosen because of their extensive experience as a supplier to the rail industry, their commitment to quality and their ability to deliver on time with technical expertise. Allfasteners understands the importance of supplying high-quality products for large infrastructure projects like these and continues to provide solutions for major projects across Australia into 2023.
The difference between a project’s success and failure lies in the details - from effective planning to working with unique specifications. At each level crossing, waterway, footing, retaining wall, or whatever the project entailed - it’s the ability to adhere to specifications and move swiftly to deliver solutions that prevent deadlines from endlessly extending.
How many projects have suffered from a lack of attention to detail? Too many. That’s why we’re of the mindset that every detail matters, no matter how small it may appear to be. In the case of supplying fasteners and hold-down bolt cages for the Inland Rail and Level Crossing Removal Projects, it was crucial to pay close attention to the unique specifications of each location. By doing so, we were able to provide the right solutions and ensure that the project moved forward smoothly, without any delays or setbacks.
Australia’s rail projects often require unique and custom-made fasteners and other products due to the specific requirements of the rail infrastructure. From hold-down bolt cages, threaded rods, and other custom-made products, having a single source supplier with the right fabrication capabilities is essential.
For Allfasteners, this all starts in the industrial workshop at Keilor Park through engineering consultation and design. From consultation to fabrication, the workshop team has the capacity to bend, cut, thread, weld, and assemble custom-made products according to project specifications and all project sizes. Between the fabrication team and engineering team continuously applying quality management systems during the design, fabrication, and delivery stages, Allfasteners is a trusted supplier of engineered fastener products.
With our widely-reaching manufacturing network and expert workshop, Allfasteners has been able to deliver solutions to even the most niche industries and site problems all across Australia. From thread rolling to custom hold-down bolt cages to specialised coatings to extremely large studbolts, Allfasteners makes it happen.
A golden age of rail projects is on the horizon for Australia. Several large infrastructure projects are already underway in 2023, including:
We’re looking forward to what 2023 has to offer, with these projects and many more sure to shape the future of rail infrastructure in Australia. This will no doubt lead to a brighter future for Australian commuters and logistics, with improved rail networks on the horizon.
