Getting Better Results from Mechanical Anchors

When a subcontractor hit a snag in sourcing anchors for the Boggo Road, Cross River Rail project, the solution came from a collaboration that turned challenges into triumphs. Robert Bird Group worked with our Queensland team to switch to our innovative wedge anchoring solution, WA-S1 anchors. Putting it into action required comprehensive training on how the
WA-S1 would work with the culverts along the line.

The WA-S1 Wedge Anchor is a superior fastening solution specifically designed to bear strong loads under critical circumstances. These anchors are crafted from high-quality 316 (A4) stainless steel, rendering them suitable for external applications in coastal or highly industrial environments. The perfect efficient and reliable solution for the station railings.

The site presented some challenges for the client due to the required shear volume of anchors. For example, just in the Albert Street Station, the 20-metre-long platform had 368 precast culverts.

The Queensland team stepped up and provided a installation training day for the engineers and crews on site to find the most efficient way to anchor into the culverts.

Allfasteners showcased a few ways for wedge anchors to be installed:

• Manual installation by hammering the bolt into the substrate to the effective anchor depth.
• Or using a tool like the WA-ST Wedge Anchor SDS+ Setting Tool on an SDS rotary hammer drill, a much faster and less labour-intensive method.

Training extended into the full process of cleaning and brushing holes through to detailing the technical data sheets for reference. The client was delighted with the wedge anchors, training, and anchoring methodology for the duration of the project.
